For :iconxnaruto-fans-clubx:'s AU contest....

Team Seven in Celtic times :D

(kinda inspired by the reconstruction work I've been doing lately)

The lighting was hell - and still doesn't really work ^^; - I know the firelight should be even warmer :(

And yeah... I debated the whiskers thing in my head and decided to leave them out. It didn't look right with all the historical-ness - but hopefully it's still clear who Naruto is :)

... Oh, and Kakashi's hair is perfectly in-keeping with historical accuracy too (!) .. .the Celts seem to have had a very manga-y approach to hairstyles ^^... even the grey color... :omg:

Hehe, I wasn´t here some time... nice to see your arts  ...

I like the warm tones of it, the way you draw it... er, nothing else from me to say - you know that I´m poor with knowledge of painting... :D

Great work! :aww:

:D

Thanks!

And yeah... this image shows that my own knowledge of painting had gone downhill a bit during my drawing-marathon at the start of the summer :(

I'm glad you liked the warm tones - I seem to have got a 50/50 reaction - some people love it, some hate it :D

I like the colours and the textures but overall it doesn't work for me, it has a weak composition and it isn't easy for the eye to read. Still, I really like the style :)

Thanks so much for your honesty :D (as you probably know, I would always rather know what i need to improve ^^;)

And yeah... i think i just spent too long on those colours (which still don't work :fight:) and skipped out on sorting the initial sketch. This is what you get when I try painting after ages of doing line work - a big mess of bad anatomy and perspective disguised under a heap of texture ^^; I see what you mean about the composition, too.... really I think doing the tight lineart's been good for me - maybe I'll do more inked stuff next :D

painting's tough D:, I find picking colours really hard too- best to go simple and firmly decide on your light source. You probably didn't use any references either right? Guessing how something looks is hardly ever convincing in the end. Don't give up on painting with no lines though, just have a clear idea of what the picture is about and how the dark and light values will work, if that makes any sense?

I've got to improve my skills too :ohnoes:, it's been too long since I did realistic drawing and painting- must sketch more! I'm thinking of trying out cell shading too, on all sorts of subjects to learn about colours and shadow - maybe you should give it a shot to?
